Our Inspiration
Famed heart surgeon Dr. Michael DeBakey pioneered surgical innovations. Among them are coronary bypass operations, artificial hearts, and the replacement and repair of blood vessels. Dr. DeBakey received numerous awards, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the National Medal of Science, and the Congressional Gold Medal. The Michael E. DeBakey High School for Health Professions in Doha, Qatar was founded in 2008 with the permission of Dr. Michael E. DeBakey in collaboration with Dr. Ibrahim Al Naimi. The school became only the second in the world to bear Dr. DeBakey’s name. We are honored to lead and operate this unique school. Our goal is to make these opportunities available to students all over the world.
Dr. Virginia Parras
Dr. Virginia Parras is a leading educational consultant, educator, and administrator who is passionate about making higher education accessible and attainable for all young people. Who work in the creation of innovative curricula has afforded students from grades 5-12 exposure to the world’s leading scientists and technologists, and an educational experience without barriers.
Dr. Parras was selected by the Qatar’s Minister of Education and Higher Education to transform and the DeBakey High School for Health Professions at Qatar.
Dr. Parras also serves as advisor and consultant to several colleges and universities, and public and private K-12 schools nationally and internationally. Her brand of education and development consulting enables relevant curricula and administrative management guidance. She and her partners also provide strategic planning and fiscal management assistance to educational institutions and organizations
She is a member of the National Association of College and University Business Officers, as well as the Texas Association of Community College Business Officers.
Dr. Parras holds a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) from Walden University. She also holds an MBA from the University of St. Thomas and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Regis University. She is bilingual in Spanish and English. She makes her home in Houston, Texas, and frequents the Middle East.
Dr. Art Tyler
Dr. Tyler is a decorated veteran, a highly sought-after speaker, and an author and lecturer in the areas of innovation education, higher education and institutional management. He is also a leader in minority male STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), initiatives.
Dr. Tyler was selected Qatar’s Minister of Education and Higher Education to lead U.S. teams in the creation of community colleges in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, The kingdom of Tonga and Vietnam. He has served in leadership roles as chancellor, deputy chancellor for community colleges in San Francisco, Houston, Sacramento, Los Angeles, and Compton, California. He has also served as guest lecturer at the University of Texas at Austin. In his previous careers, Dr. Tyler has served as advisor to two Commanders-in-Chief for Middle East activities, Special Agent and anti-terrorism manager for the U.S. Air Force, and his five-year plan for human asset protection became a model used by the Department of Defense.
He holds a doctorate in Organizational Management and Leadership from University of Phoenix, an MA in National Security Affairs vis-à-vis the Middle East with Distinction, U.S. Naval Post Graduate School, and a Bachelor of Science in Business from the University of Maryland.
Among his honors are the Air Force Medal for heroism and valor, and the Meritorious Service Award.
